The Book of Haggai, a book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament, was written in 520 BC. The Hebrew name Haggai means “festive.” Haggai was a prophet who ministered to the people of Judah after their return from exile in Babylon. His book contains four oracles, each of which rebukes the people for their neglect of rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem and encourages them to resume the work. Haggai also promises that God will bless the people for their obedience.
