The book of Habakkuk, a book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament, was probably written in the late 7th century BC. The Hebrew name Habakkuk means “embracing.” Habakkuk was a prophet who ministered to the people of Judah during a time of great distress and injustice. His book contains a series of dialogues between Habakkuk and God, in which the prophet grapples with the problem of evil in the world and why God allows it. Habakkuk also receives a vision of God's judgment on the wicked and his salvation for the righteous.
